Anne of Green Gables

I just love this series. As a kid, I had read only the first 2 books and now bought the whole series and
read them. This book is not only for the girls, every guy should also read it.

You feel you are actually living Anne's life right from her adoption to her marriage and kids. You actually can feel what Anne feels-The lovely red-haired Anne(with an e!) and her imagination!

I will write nothing more here, you can learn all about life.

“It's been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will.”

“Because when you are imagining, you might as well imagine something worth while.”

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The Perks of being a wallflower

This book was on my to-read list from a long time and never got the book in the library.
Now that I am in U.S. and there is an awesome library close by,you just have to tell the book you need and they hold it for you for 10 days (if not in their library ,they get it from the group of libraries close by)and can go and pick it up! It is a free public library with an awesome collection!
Well, about the book now.

The book is written in the format of letters by a teenage boy addressing some stranger (but when you read it,it is like addressing you).He writes down his thoughts about everything that goes on his life, his experience in school, what he feels about his parents, sister, about love, friendship etc:
I really love the thoughts that go through this kid's head Charlie, and how he puts them down.It is a must definite read, will not write much about it,will just list my favorite Charlie's thoughts.
Some are thoughts which even I have thought about but he puts it down really well!

Some of my favorite ones:

1) He reads a lot of books given by his English teacher (specially given to him)  and asked to write a report.

His comment on one of the books read-Fountainhead:
“It's strange to describe reading a book as a really great experience, but that's kind of how it felt.”
I felt the same about Fountainhead and this book too!

“I would die for you. But I won't live for you." He reads this line in Fountainhead book and his thought:
I think the idea is that every person has to live for his or her own life and then make the choice to share it with other people. Maybe that is what makes people "participate.”

“It's strange because sometimes, I read a book, and I think I am the people in the book.”
Yes,I did this too and I was Nancy Drew for a long time! and rarely do it now as I do not want to be the characters I read nowadays.(Later on that)

2)“So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”

3)His thoughts on parenting style :-)
“I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have.”

“I don't know if it's better to be close with your daughter or make sure that she has a better life than you do.”

4) On memories,He wonders about that his  Dad was a kid once just like him and found it funny!
“I was looking at the photographs and I started thinking that there was a time when these weren't memories.”
“Old pictures look very rugged and young, and the people in the photographs always seem a lot happier than they are now.

5) When he is upset ,(Forgot, what it was about)

“I don't know if you've ever felt like that. That you wanted to sleep for thousands of years. Or just not exist..”
We all do ,especially on Monday mornings!:-)

6) He creates mixed tapes a lot to give as presents and his thoughts on how songs make us feel:

“And I thought about how many people have loved those songs. And how many people got through a lot of bad times because of those songs. And how many people enjoyed good times with those songs. And how much those songs really mean. I think it would be great to have written one of those songs. I bet if I wrote one of them, I would be very proud. I hope the people who wrote those songs are happy. I hope they feel it's enough. I really do because they've made me happy. And I'm only one person.”

7)And finally :

“It's much easier to not know things sometimes. Things change and friends leave. And life doesn't stop for anybody. I wanted to laugh. Or maybe get mad. Or maybe shrug at how strange everybody was, especially me. I think the idea is that every person has to live for his or her own life and then make the choice to share it with other people. You can't just sit there and put everybody's lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can't. You have to do things. I'm going to do what I want to do. I'm going to be who I really am. And I'm going to figure out what that is. And we could all sit around and wonder and feel bad about each other and blame a lot of people for what they did or didn't do or what they didn't know. I don't know. I guess there could always be someone to blame. It's just different. Maybe it's good to put things in perspective, but sometimes, I think that the only perspective is to really be there. Because it's okay to feel things. I was really there. And that was enough to make me feel infinite. I feel infinite."

If you wondering about  the title, his friends call him a wallflower because
"You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand. You're a wallflower."
You have to read the book to know why his friend says so:-)
